A short and sweet post for you.
Oh yes, I am a nutrition nerd. I read about it. I study it. I apply it. I experiment with new foods and recipes. I love it. And I have experimented enough to share my thoughts, so here goes.
Here is the deal and where I stand on diets. I believe in real and lasting change. The kind where you see results outside and in. The kind of change you can maintain. I believe there are myriad quick fix diets. I’d venture to say almost anyone can lose weight on these diets. But therein lies the problem. The diet is the problem. After the diet is over and you have reached your goals, then what? Back to your old ways? I hope not and of course that is never the intention. But slowly, old habits creep in and the weight comes back on and then some. There can be many reasons why this happens. Typically, it is because the diet was not a lifestyle that equaled real, lasting change.
So, what diet is on your radar to try next? Uh, huh… okay, sounds like it will work. Can you honestly sustain it? Or more importantly, do you want to? And for the rest of your life? No? Then, don’t do it!
The best place to start? Start to understand and learn about the foods you currently eat. Are they real whole fruits and vegetables or prepared and processed ‘foods’, likely full of chemicals? No judgement here. We are just learning where you are and where we can take steps to make real, lasting change.
You see, it has to be a shift in your lifestyle. And it can happen, but real and lasting change starts with small wins that you continue to build on. Eliminate one processed or refined food and replace it with something cleaner or closer to its natural state. Do this slowly, a few days at a time, until it sticks. For example, instead of apple juice every morning, choose a whole apple. Start adding in more whole fruits and veggies (preferably organic) and clean unrefined ingredients (more to come on all of this – remember short and sweet).
I am an advocate for real foods and less processed junk in our bodies and in our food system.
So what is in the foods you are eating? Are you ready to make some small changes? Tell me below in the comments!
Be well,
